The stick-built curtain wall, as an alternative to the unitized system, is a technical system centered on on-site assembly. By installing independent components layer by layer onto the building's main structure, this system can flexibly adapt to complex facade geometries and allows for dynamic adjustments to position and angle during installation. The system primarily consists of vertical mullions, horizontal transoms, glass pressure plates, and various connecting accessories. All components are prefabricated in the factory and transported to the site, where they are assembled using bolted mechanical connections, completely eliminating the risks of welding deformation.
The vertical mullions are connected to the main structure via three-dimensionally adjustable steel adapters, supporting installation tolerance compensation of up to ±20mm. The transoms utilize a closed-cavity profile design combined with reinforced polyamide thermal breaks, creating a continuous and effective thermal break construction. The overall heat transfer coefficient (U-value) of the curtain wall can be controlled within 1.5 W/(m²·K).
In terms of construction details, the system integrates multiple layers of performance-enhancing mechanisms: the outer layer employs silicone weather-resistant sealant for flexible sealing; the middle layer features EPDM gaskets to form air and watertight barriers; and the inner layer comprises a pressure-equalized drainage system formed by structural cavities and drainage holes. The glass configuration supports flexible combinations ranging from single-layer tempered glass to triple-glazed, double-cavity ultra-low energy glass, and allows for on-site replacement or upgrades. All exposed metal profiles are treated with fluorocarbon coatings, while connectors undergo hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion protection, ensuring the system's durability in corrosive environments rated C4 and above.
This curtain wall type is particularly suitable for renovation projects, irregular curved facades, and complex projects requiring phased construction. Its "on-site adjustable" feature allows dynamic correction of installation parameters based on actual measurement data. When combined with BIM technology, it enables digital pre-assembly of components, controlling construction tolerances within 2mm.
